Why screenshots need a review step
A screenshot hides its text inside pixels. Before relying on it, you need to know what the OCR actually recovered:
- Image and text inputs are tokenized differently, and the exact cost depends on the destination model.
- OCR can confuse similar characters such as 0 and O or l and 1.
- Text spacing and reading order may be damaged, especially in dense layouts.
- A reviewable Markdown result exposes the recovered text before you use it elsewhere.

What this does and doesn't promise
We do not claim that OCR always lowers token cost or improves downstream accuracy. The estimate may decrease or increase, and OCR can misread text. Review the OCR against the original screenshot; blurry photos or handwriting may not extract, and unreadable input is reported instead of invented. Free screenshot conversions are rate-limited to reduce abuse.
Questions
Does converting a screenshot always use fewer tokens?
No. LessTokens estimates the recovered text, while image-token rules vary by destination model. The estimate may decrease or increase. The dependable benefit is that you can review the OCR text and warnings before deciding how to use it.
Is my screenshot private?
Yes. Screenshots are read with self-hosted OCR, never sent to a paid third-party AI API, never used to train AI, and automatically deleted within 60 minutes. See the privacy policy for the full detail.
What screenshots does it work on?
Screenshots with readable printed text — error messages, documentation, chat logs, code — in English or Traditional Chinese. It reads the text in the image: a screenshot of a table is read line by line but is not rebuilt into a Markdown table (use the Excel/CSV converters for real tables), and photos, charts, and complex visuals are not interpreted or described. Blurry images and handwriting may not extract; when the text can't be read, the tool says so instead of returning made-up output.

File retention
Uploaded originals and conversion results are temporary. They are not kept as a permanent document library.
- Uploaded originals are used only to produce your Markdown result and are deleted as soon as processing ends, or within 60 minutes at the latest.
- Conversion results and job records are available for up to 60 minutes, then expire and are automatically removed from the active database.
- We do not keep a permanent document library. Limited provider-managed infrastructure snapshots may retain residual copies for up to 5 days before automatic expiry.
- Uploaded originals are held in temporary local storage only while the job is processed. Recurring cleanup removes any expired temporary upload left by an interruption.
